Introduction to the Apostles’ Creed (Part 7)

Some scholars have said that the Apostles’ Creed was written by the Apostles themselves. They have said that each of the Apostles contributed at least one statement or one basic truth of the Apostles’ Creed. However, this is not true! The creed was put together by different church leaders over a period of about 700 years. There was even a creed called the Roman Creed which was very similar to the Apostles’ Creed. By about A.D. 700 (about 700 years after Christ), the Apostles’ Creed was finally standardized in Latin. “Standardized” means officially accepted or recognized by the Church.

So, the Apostles’ Creed was NOT written by the Apostles.

Ephesians 2:19-20 says that the members of God’s household – the church – “was built on the foundations of the apostles and the prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”

And what is this foundation? The foundation is based on what was written in the New and Old Testament. The foundation was given to the Apostles and prophets through the INSPIRATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. And the foundation puts Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone – the focus, the center, the emphasis of the Gospel.

So, who wrote the Apostles’ Creed? The early church leaders using the Bible as its foundation and Christ as its cornerstone.

Algunos eruditos han dicho que el Credo de los Apóstoles fue escrito por los mismos Apóstoles. Han dicho que cada uno de los Apóstoles contribuyó al menos con una declaración o una verdad básica del Credo de los Apóstoles. ¡Sin embargo, eso no es verdad! El credo fue elaborado por diferentes líderes de la iglesia durante un período de unos 700 años. Incluso había un credo llamado el Credo Romano que era muy similar al Credo de los Apóstoles. Alrededor del año 700 d. C. (alrededor de 700 años después de Cristo), el Credo de los Apóstoles finalmente se estandarizó en latín. “Estandarizado” significa oficialmente aceptado o reconocido por la Iglesia.

Entonces, el Credo de los Apóstoles NO fue escrito por los Apóstoles.

Entonces, ¿quién escribió el Credo de los Apóstoles? Los líderes de la iglesia primitiva usando la Biblia como su fundamento y Cristo como su piedra angular.
