Introduction to the Apostles’ Creed (Part 9)

When my daughter was in high school and there was a question related to her faith, she would often respond to that question with the words “I think.” I would then challenge her by saying to her, “Instead of saying ‘I think’, ask yourself the question, ‘What does the Bible say?’” And soon, she began to realize that what she thought and what was in the Bible were two different things.

We actually live in a world where many people (perhaps most people) respond to life’s important questions with the words “I think….”

· I think God is.…

· I think Jesus is.…

· I think the Holy Spirit is….

· I think the church is….

· I think the resurrection is….

· I think eternal life is….

And you can begin to imagine the MILLION AND ONE ANSWERS to these “I think” statements. All different answers. All different answers that are thought to be true.

But what is true? Truth is based on Scripture Alone. The answers do not come from us; the answers come from God and His Word.

So, before we begin to explore the different doctrines of the Apostles’ Creed, it is important to establish a foundation. Throughout the series of devotions, our foundation will be and must be God’s Word – the Bible.

Reflection: What is my tendency when asking about life’s important questions? Do I say “I think…” or do I say “the Bible says…”?

Introducción al Credo de los Apóstoles (Parte 9)

Cuando mi hija estaba en la escuela secundaria y había una pregunta relacionada con su fe, a menudo respondía a esa pregunta con las palabras "Yo pienso". Luego la desafiaba diciéndole: “En lugar de decir 'Yo pienso', hágase la pregunta: '¿Qué dice la Biblia?'”. Y pronto, comenzó a darse cuenta de que lo que pensaba y lo que estaba en la Biblia eran dos cosas diferentes.

De hecho, vivimos en un mundo donde muchas personas (quizás la mayoría de las personas) responden a las preguntas importantes de la vida con las palabras "Yo pienso que...".

• Yo pienso que Dios es...

• Yo pienso que Jesús es...

• Yo pienso que el Espíritu Santo es….

• Yo pienso que la iglesia es….

• Yo pienso que la resurrección es….

• Yo pienso que la vida eterna es….

Y puede comenzar a imaginar el MILLÓN Y UNA RESPUESTAS a estas declaraciones de "Yo pienso". Todas las respuestas diferentes. Todas las respuestas diferentes que se cree que son ciertas.

Pero, ¿qué es verdad? La verdad se basa únicamente en las Escrituras. Las respuestas no vienen de nosotros; las respuestas vienen de Dios y Su Palabra.

Entonces, antes de comenzar a explorar las diferentes doctrinas del Credo de los Apóstoles, es importante establecer una base. A lo largo de la serie de devocionales, nuestro fundamento será y debe ser la Palabra de Dios: la Biblia.

Reflexión: ¿Cuál es mi tendencia cuando hago preguntas importantes de la vida? ¿Digo “Yo pienso…” o digo “la Biblia dice…”?
