Introduction to the Apostles’ Creed (Part 4)

I have a Bible in front of me as I write this part; it is an English/Spanish Bible. And this Bible contains a total of 1,576 pages. That’s a lot of pages. Now how many of you have read your Bible from cover to cover? Probably very few persons have read it from cover to cover. But if you have read it from cover to cover, did you understand everything? Do you remember everything? Is it possible to understand and remember everything? And if you are like me (and I am pretty sure that you are), you definitely do not understand everything and you definitely do not remember everything.

And how about the person who is a poor reader or even the person who cannot read at all. Chances are that they will never read the Bible from cover to cover or will never listen to the Bible from cover to cover. (By the way, with technology the way it is, even a poor reader and person unable to read, can now listen to the entire Bible. We are really blessed!) So, if this is our reality, how then do we know what those 1,576 pages say? How then do we know the content of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

We make a RECIPE or a SUMMARY. And now when we read or hear the Apostles’ Creed, we can now say, “This is what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about! This is what I believe.

Reflection: Would it be beneficial for you to read or listen to God’s Word (the Bible) from cover to cover? How would reading or listening to the Bible help your understanding of what you believe as a Christian?

Tengo una Biblia frente a mí mientras escribo esta parte; es una Biblia en inglés/español. Y esta Biblia contiene un total de 1.576 páginas. Son muchas páginas. Ahora, ¿cuántos de ustedes han leído su Biblia de cabo a rabo? Probablemente muy pocas personas lo han leído de cabo a rabo. Pero si lo ha leído de cabo a rabo, ¿lo entendió todo? ¿Recuerdas todo? ¿Es posible entender y recordar todo? Y si eres como yo (y estoy bastante seguro de que lo eres), definitivamente no entiendes todo y definitivamente no recuerdas todo.

Y qué hay de la persona que es un mal lector o incluso la persona que no puede leer en absoluto. Lo más probable es que nunca lean la Biblia de principio a fin o que nunca escuchen la Biblia de principio a fin. (Por cierto, con la tecnología tal como es, incluso un lector pobre y una persona incapaz de leer, ahora puede escuchar la Biblia completa. ¡Somos realmente bendecidos!) Entonces, si esta es nuestra realidad, ¿cómo podemos saber qué esas 1.576 páginas dicen? Entonces, ¿cómo conocemos el contenido del Evangelio de Jesucristo?

Hacemos una RECETA o un RESUMEN. Y ahora, cuando leemos o escuchamos el Credo de los Apóstoles, podemos decir: “¡De esto se trata el Evangelio de Jesucristo! Esto es lo que creo.
