Introduction (Part 4)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23.

Here we have twenty-one words from God’s Word. Just twenty-one words! And you would think that twenty-one words should be very easy to explain. But it’s not! Just imagine, I am in the process of writing this series on the fruit of the Spirit. According to the page counter at the bottom of my screen, I have 167 pages or 39,084 words written to define what it means to love, to be joyful, to be a peacemaker, to forebear, to be kind, good, faithful and gentle. I have not yet finished the theme of gentleness nor touched on the theme of self-control. The Bible is packed full of stories and examples of each of the nine topics dealing with the fruit of the Spirit. In fact, the whole of Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation is telling us what the Spirit wants to teach us about these nine topics. And by constantly reading His Word, by studying His Word and by listening to the preaching of His Word, the Holy Spirit reminds us about these nine topics. (John 14:26).

So the words that I write is not the focus of this series. No, the focus of this series is what God’s Word says. It is my prayer that you would learn from the Holy Spirit what Scripture says. It is my prayer that you would be reminded read, study and listen to Scripture. It is my prayer that you become more and more like Jesus – that you would enjoy him and glorify him for what he accomplished on that cross for you, for me – sinners in need of a Saviour.

Aquí tenemos veintiuna palabras de la Palabra de Dios. ¡Solo veintiuna palabras! Y uno pensaría que veintiuna palabras deberían ser muy fáciles de explicar. ¡Pero no lo es! Imagínese, estoy en el proceso de escribir esta serie sobre el fruto del Espíritu. De acuerdo con el contador de páginas en la parte inferior de mi pantalla, tengo 167 páginas o 39,084 palabras escritas para definir lo que significa amar, ser alegre, ser pacificador, tolerar, ser amable, bueno, fiel y gentil. Todavía no he terminado el tema de la mansedumbre ni he tocado el tema del dominio propio. La Biblia está repleta de historias y ejemplos de cada uno de los nueve temas relacionados con el fruto del Espíritu. De hecho, toda la Escritura desde Génesis hasta Apocalipsis nos está diciendo lo que el Espíritu quiere enseñarnos sobre estos nueve temas. Y al leer constantemente Su Palabra, al estudiar Su Palabra y al escuchar la predicación de Su Palabra, el Espíritu Santo nos recuerda estos nueve temas. (Juan 14:26).

Así que las palabras que escribo no son el foco de esta serie. No, el enfoque de esta serie es lo que dice la Palabra de Dios. Es mi oración que aprendas del Espíritu Santo lo que dice la Escritura. Es mi oración que se le recuerde leer, estudiar y escuchar las Escrituras. Es mi oración que te vuelvas más y más como Jesús, que lo disfrutes y lo glorifiques por lo que logró en esa cruz por ti, por mí, pecadores que necesitamos un Salvador.
