19 The Gardener/El Jardinero

Connected to Jesus (Part 2)

(In this devotion, you will learn some new words about pruning a tree.)

In the picture, you do not see the gardener. The gardener’s role is to ensure that the tree gives good fruit – lots of good fruit.

According to John 15, the gardener is God. So, God comes along and evaluates the church. He looks at all the branches – all the people in the churches. He asks the question: “Which branches are good; they bear fruit? Which branches are not good; they will never bear fruit?”

Check out the image. You will see at least five kinds of branches that God will see and He knows that they will never bear fruit.

• Three suckers growing from the base of the tree.

• A broken branch.

• A crossing branch.

• Two water sprouts.

• A weak V-crotch.

In addition, there are at least three other kinds of branches that God knows will never bear fruit, but they are not seen in the image. They are the following:

• Whorls.

• Vertical growth.

• Double leaders.

What will the gardener do after evaluating all the branches of the tree?

En la imagen, no se ve al jardinero. El papel del jardinero es asegurarse de que el árbol dé buenos frutos, muchos y buenos.

Según Juan 15, el jardinero es Dios. Por lo tanto, Dios viene y evalúa la iglesia. Mira todas las ramas, todas las personas de las iglesias. Hace la pregunta: "¿Qué ramas son buenas y dan fruto? ¿Qué ramas no son buenas; nunca darán fruto?"

Mira la imagen. Verás al menos cinco tipos de ramas que Dios verá y sabe que nunca darán fruto.

• Tres chupones que crecen desde la base del árbol.

• Una rama rota.

• Una rama cruzada.

• Dos brotes de agua.

• Una rama débil en V.

Además, hay al menos otros tres tipos de ramas que Dios sabe que nunca darán fruto, pero que no se ven en la imagen. Son las siguientes:

• Verticilos.

• Crecimiento vertical.

• Líderes dobles.
