17 The Flesh/La Carne

Jesus (Part 3)

Legalism is Jesus plus something else. Legalism hinders the work of the Holy Spirit. We cannot produce the fruit of the Spirit because there is always something else standing in the way of Christ alone. But there is another problem that hinders the work of the Holy Spirit. It is called the flesh. The flesh can be defined as ME plus Jesus. My desires take priority. It’s me first and then somewhere behind the me comes Jesus. Check out what the flesh does to the fruit of the Spirit.

Reflect upon these questions: Where in my life does “ME” have priority over Jesus? Where do my desires or feelings spoil the fruit of the Spirit? Where must I replace “ME” with Jesus alone?

El legalismo es Jesús y algo más. El legalismo obstaculiza la obra del Espíritu Santo. No podemos producir el fruto del Espíritu porque siempre hay algo más que se interpone en el camino de solo Cristo. Pero hay otro problema que obstaculiza la obra del Espíritu Santo. Se llama la carne. La carne se puede definir como YO más Jesús. Mis deseos tienen prioridad. Soy primero y luego en algún lugar detrás de mí viene Jesús. Vea lo que la carne le hace al fruto del Espíritu.

Reflexione sobre estas preguntas: ¿En qué parte de mi vida “YO” tiene prioridad sobre Jesús? ¿Dónde echa a perder mis deseos o sentimientos el fruto del Espíritu? ¿Dónde debo reemplazar a "YO" con solo Jesús?
