Parents and the Holy Spirit (Part 1)

This week we started with a new series of preaching: The family. So, what does family and fruit of the Spirit have in common. EVERYTHING! This is what I mean.

Let’s say that you are a parent. A parent is a very busy person. A parent is always doing something for the kids. But there is a difference between Christian parents and any other parents. Christian parents have an extra power within. In fact, they have TRUE power within – the power of the Holy Spirit.

That means that because of Jesus, Christian parents have the “nine-in-one”. Those parents have the FRUIT of the Spirit. That means that they can LOVE their children as Jesus loved them. That means that they experience JOY as they raise their children. That means that they have PEACE to trust that Jesus will work in the lives of their children. That means that they are PATIENT, KIND, GOOD and FAITHFUL to their children. That means they HUMBLY carry out their duties as mothers and fathers, not in their own strength but in the strength of the Spirit. That means that they have SELF-CONTROL even when children get on their nerves or misbehave. The fruit of the Spirit is OBVIOUS in the life of a Christian mom and dad. They care for their children just as God cares for the birds of the air, the lilies and grass of the field; just as God cares for you and me. (Matthew 6:26-30).

Now, of course, we are not perfect. We are not Supermoms or Superdads. We don’t always allow the Spirit to work in us; we don’t always obey His voice. Sometimes we neglect to talk to Him in prayer, to listen to Him in Scripture.

Analyze your walk as a parent with your children. Pray that God through His Spirit would renew you, fill you, create in you a new heart.

One last thought: But some of you may say: “I don’t have children” or “My children are no longer at home.” With or without children, the fruit of the Spirit should be obvious within you. Walk and produce fruit in the power of the Holy Spirit!

Los Padres y el Espíritu Santo (Parte 1)

Esta semana comenzamos con una nueva serie de prédicas: La familia. Entonces, ¿qué tienen en común la familia y el fruto del Espíritu? ¡TODO! Esto es lo que quiero decir.

Digamos que eres un padre. Un padre es una gente muy ocupada. Un padre siempre está haciendo algo por los niños. Pero hay una diferencia entre los padres cristianos y cualquier otro padre. Los padres cristianos tienen un poder adicional en su interior. De hecho, tienen VERDADERO poder interior: el poder del Espíritu Santo.

Eso significa que gracias a Jesús, los padres cristianos tienen el “nueve en uno”. Esos padres tienen el FRUTO del Espíritu. Eso significa que pueden AMAR a sus hijos como Jesús los amó. Eso significa que experimentan GOZO mientras crían a sus hijos. Eso significa que tienen PAZ para confiar en que Jesús obrará en la vida de sus hijos. Eso significa que son PACIENTES, AMABLES, BUENOS y FIELES con sus hijos. Eso significa que HUMILDEMENTE llevan a cabo sus deberes como madres y padres, no con sus propias fuerzas sino con la fuerza del Espíritu. Eso significa que tienen DOMINIO PROPIO incluso cuando los niños se ponen tercos o se portan mal. El fruto del Espíritu es OBVIO en la vida de una mamá y un papá cristiano. Cuidan de sus hijos como Dios cuida de las aves del cielo, de los lirios y de la hierba del campo; así como Dios se preocupa por ti y por mí. (Mateo 6:26-30).

Ahora, por supuesto, no somos perfectos. No somos Supermamás ni Superpapás. No siempre permitimos que el Espíritu obre en nosotros; no siempre obedecemos Su voz. A veces descuidamos hablar con Él en oración, escucharlo en las Escrituras.

Analiza tu caminar como padre con tus hijos. Ore para que Dios a través de Su Espíritu te renueve, te llene, cree en ti un corazón nuevo.

Un último pensamiento: Pero algunos de ustedes pueden decir: “No tengo hijos” o “Mis hijos ya no están en casa”. Con o sin hijos, el fruto del Espíritu debe ser evidente dentro de ti. ¡Camina y produce fruto en el poder del Espíritu Santo!
