I believe in the singularity of God. Now you might be asking: “What do you mean by the word ‘singularity’?” Romans 3:30 says: “There is only one God.” In Psalm 86:10, David sang to the Lord: “You alone are God.” So, we believe that there is only ONE God. There is only one divine being. This was true in the days of the Old Testament. It was true in the days of the New Testament. It was true in the early centuries of the church. And it is still true today.

There are other religions that affirm this very same belief that there is only one god. For example, in the modern world, both Judaism and Islam insist that there is one and only one divine being. But, do they believe in the same god that we do?

• Consider Judaism. Judaism bases its faith on the Old Testament, which Christians do also. But they deny the New Testament. And as a result, they deny the Trinitarian God that the Bible reveals. In fact, they deny each person of the Trinity. They reject Jesus as Lord and God incarnate. They deny that the Holy Spirit is a divine person. And by rejecting Jesus and the Holy Spirit, they deny the Father who sent them.

• Now consider Islam. Islam believes that God is absolutely one and there is no community of being within him. In other words, they reject the trinity – the doctrine that the one God eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Islam would say that Christians believe in three gods – the father, and the mother and the son.

So, do they believe in the same god that we do? No. Both Judaism and Islam reject the trinity. We believe in ONE God that exists in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Apostles’ Creed follows a trinitarian formula: I believe in God, I believe in the Son and I believe in the Holy Spirit. We believe in the singular triune God.

Reflection: There is a common adage shared today: “All religions lead to the same God.” If a friend came to you and made this statement, how would you respond?

Creo en la singularidad de Dios. Ahora te estarás preguntando: "¿Qué quieres decir con la palabra 'singularidad'?" Romanos 3:30 dice: “Hay un solo Dios”. En el Salmo 86:10, David cantó al Señor: “Tú solo eres Dios”. Entonces, creemos que solo hay UN Dios. Sólo hay un ser divino. Esto era cierto en los días del Antiguo Testamento. Era cierto en los días del Nuevo Testamento. Era cierto en los primeros siglos de la iglesia. Y sigue siendo cierto hoy en día.

Hay otras religiones que afirman esta misma creencia de que solo hay un dios. Por ejemplo, en el mundo moderno, tanto el judaísmo como el Islam insisten en que existe un único ser divino. Pero, ¿creen en el mismo dios que nosotros?

• Considere el judaísmo. El judaísmo basa su fe en el Antiguo Testamento, lo cual también hacen los cristianos. Pero niegan el Nuevo Testamento. Y como resultado, niegan al Dios Trinitario que la Biblia revela. De hecho, niegan a cada persona de la Trinidad. Rechazan a Jesús como Señor y Dios encarnado. Niegan que el Espíritu Santo sea una persona divina. Y al rechazar a Jesús y al Espíritu Santo, niegan al Padre que los envió.

• Ahora considere el Islam. El Islam cree que Dios es absolutamente uno y que no existe una comunidad de seres dentro de él. En otras palabras, rechazan la trinidad, la doctrina de que el único Dios existe eternamente en tres personas, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. El Islam diría que los cristianos creen en tres dioses: el padre, la madre y el hijo.

Entonces, ¿creen en el mismo dios que nosotros? No. Tanto el judaísmo como el Islam rechazan la trinidad. Creemos en UN Dios que existe en tres personas: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. El Credo de los Apóstoles sigue una fórmula trinitaria: Creo en Dios, creo en el Hijo y creo en el Espíritu Santo. Creemos en el Dios trino y singular.

Reflexión: Hay un adagio común compartido hoy: “Todas las religiones conducen al mismo Dios”. Si un amigo viniera a ti y te hiciera esta declaración, ¿cómo responderías?
