Galatians 5:22-23 (Part 3)

Yesterday I mentioned that “spirit” was a very important word. But there is a second very important word, and that word is “fruit”. Note that the word in Galatians 5:22 is NOT “fruits” as in the plural of “fruit”. No, it is “fruit”. And that singular word is very significant.

I have never seen a tree that produces bananas, oranges, apples, avocados and other sorts of fruit all at the same time. Totally strange! Why does the Apostle Paul say fruit rather than fruits? The answer is simple. The Christian bears all the fruit of the Spirit at the same time. When you have Christ in your heart, you don’t start with an empty heart and then one by one, he starts adding another fruit. No, he gives you nine in one. The fruit of the Spirit comes as a complete package. The package comes complete, but our obedience and commitment does not come complete or perfect. The Spirit works in us in a process of sanctification. We are made holy (sanctified) little by little in Christ, and then at the end of the pilgrimage of life, Jesus makes us TOTALLY perfect. We become like him. We become completely filled with Christ-like love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We are not there yet, but the promise is sure – we will be like Christ.

Gálatas 5:22-23 (Parte 3)

Ayer mencioné que “espíritu” era una palabra muy importante. Pero hay una segunda palabra muy importante, y esa palabra es "fruto". Tenga en cuenta que la palabra en Gálatas 5:22 NO es "frutos" como en el plural de "fruto". No, es "fruto". Y esa palabra singular es muy significativa.

Nunca he visto un árbol que produzca plátanos, naranjas, manzanas, aguacates y otros tipos de frutas al mismo tiempo. ¡Totalmente extraño! ¿Por qué el apóstol Pablo dice fruto en lugar de frutos? La respuesta es simple. El cristiano lleva todo el fruto del Espíritu al mismo tiempo. Cuando tienes a Cristo en tu corazón, no comienzas con un corazón vacío y luego, uno por uno, comienza a agregar otra fruta. No, te da nueve en uno. El fruto del Espíritu viene como un paquete completo. El paquete viene completo, pero nuestra obediencia y compromiso no llega completo ni perfecto. El Espíritu obra en nosotros en un proceso de santificación. Somos hechos santos (santificados) poco a poco en Cristo, y luego, al final del peregrinaje de la vida, Jesús nos hace TOTALMENTE perfectos. Nos volvemos como él. Nos llenamos completamente de amor, gozo, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, humildad y dominio propio como los de Cristo. Aún no hemos llegado allí, pero la promesa es segura: seremos como Cristo.
