24 Enthronement: King Over Heaven and Earth/Entronización: Rey del Cielo y de la Tierra

Part 4: Exaltation

The New Testament mentions Jesus’ enthronement at the right hand of God the Father in many, many places. The basic idea is that Jesus is our great human king, and that he has a throne in heaven that sits to the right of the Father’s great throne. In this scenario, the Father is the great high king or suzerain, and the Son is the lesser king or vassal that serves him. This follows the model of kingdoms in the ancient world, whereby lesser kings would rule over various portions of a great empire, and pay tribute and render service to the emperor.

Normally when we think about the kingship of Christ, we think of that as something very exalted, high up there, and because Jesus is now at the right hand of God the Father, and he is the King. But we must remember that Jesus was exalted in his kingship in his human nature. That’s to say, in his divine nature, Jesus was always the King. He was always ruling as the sovereign over all things, but Jesus was given authority in heaven and earth in his human nature. And Jesus is the Son of David, and therefore the one who represents the nation of Israel, and the people of God. And the Son of David, like David himself, was a vassal king; he was a servant of the greater king, God the Father in heaven.

Parte 4: Exaltación

El Nuevo Testamento menciona la entronización de Jesús a la derecha de Dios Padre en muchísimos lugares. La idea básica es que Jesús es nuestro gran rey humano, y que tiene un trono en el cielo que se sienta a la derecha del gran trono del Padre. En este escenario, el Padre es el gran rey o soberano, y el Hijo es el rey menor o vasallo que le sirve. Esto sigue el modelo de los reinos del mundo antiguo, en el que los reyes menores gobernaban varias partes de un gran imperio, y pagaban tributo y prestaban servicio al emperador.

Normalmente, cuando pensamos en la realeza de Cristo, pensamos en ello como algo muy exaltado, en lo alto, y porque Jesús está ahora a la diestra de Dios Padre, y él es el Rey. Pero debemos recordar que Jesús fue exaltado en su realeza en su naturaleza humana. Es decir, en su naturaleza divina, Jesús siempre fue el Rey. Siempre gobernó como soberano sobre todas las cosas, pero a Jesús se le dio autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra en su naturaleza humana. Y Jesús es el Hijo de David, y por tanto el que representa a la nación de Israel, y al pueblo de Dios. Y el Hijo de David, como el propio David, era un rey vasallo; era un siervo del rey mayor, Dios Padre que está en los cielos.
