Jesus Is Human (Part 1)

In the last couple centuries, many theologians have readily accepted that Jesus was human, but they have questioned his divinity – that he is the Christ, God’s only Son, LORD. But in the early centuries of the church, it was at least as common for people to question the humanity of Jesus. Influential philosophies of that day made it relatively easy for people to accept that a god could disguise himself as a human being. But it was very hard for them to accept the idea that a god could actually become a human being. Human beings were physical and emotional beings. In their estimation, God would not compromise his own glory and dignity by taking on a lowly, creaturely, human nature. Sadly, many modern Christians also have trouble believing that God the Son could come to earth and take on full humanity, with all its weaknesses, limitations, and imperfections.

Jesús es humano (Parte 1)

En los últimos dos siglos, muchos teólogos han aceptado fácilmente que Jesús era humano, pero han cuestionado su divinidad - que es el Cristo, el único Hijo de Dios, el Señor. Pero en los primeros siglos de la Iglesia, era al menos igual de común que la gente cuestionara la humanidad de Jesús. Las filosofías influyentes de la época hacían que fuera relativamente fácil para la gente aceptar que un dios pudiera disfrazarse de ser humano. Pero les resultaba muy difícil aceptar la idea de que un dios pudiera convertirse en un ser humano. Los seres humanos eran seres físicos y emocionales. En su opinión, Dios no comprometería su propia gloria y dignidad asumiendo una naturaleza humana, humilde y en forma de criatura. Lamentablemente, muchos cristianos modernos también tienen problemas para creer que Dios el Hijo pudiera venir a la tierra y asumir la plena humanidad, con todas sus debilidades, limitaciones e imperfecciones.
